Day two, and here is some more art that was created recently and shown at the first convention I have shown at. First up is a drawing of the Hitch Hiking Ghosts who are trying to find their way out of Disney’s Haunted Mansion. It is a marker and ink drawing. And this is a piece that sold at the show.
This is a color version of the piece that I did.
Muppets are and have always been important to me. The photo this is based on is just perfect. It is a 5″x7″ watercolor and ink piece and is for sale for $20.
Everybody’s got a laughin’ place
This is a painting of the final scene of the ride, Splash Mountain. It features the largest animatronic(the boat, which rocks back and forth) and a bunch of animatronic characters from the America Sings attraction. It is a oil, ink and watercolor painting.
This is for sale and will be on Etsy soon.
Splash Mountain is one of the rides that I love going on but will sometimes have to skip. It’s always a last second judgement call on if I’m willing to walk around the park with wet pants and shoes. But, the theming and ride itself is so great!
This questionable looking gentleman is one of pirates who are bidding on a bride on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, He is perched a top a bridge that you pass under as you exit the auction scene. He is watching it all happen along with his parrot friend. This was an ink drawing that I did and then I dropped it into Photoshop and colored it.
This is one job that most of us would not want! He is the originally named, Caretaker. We run into these two just after escaping the attic of the Haunted Mansion, right before we make our way into the cemetery, They are like the Shaggy and Scooby Do of the Mansion.
This is the original drawing in ink and marker before the color job in Photoshop.
Today’s foray into the Haunted Mansion brings to the end of The Ballroom where we get to see a room filled with dancers and a huge dining table where a birthday party is taking place. The music for the party is being played for us by this ghostly character. And, as he plays, skulls fly out of the pipes of the organ. But, this is not the end of our trip through the Haunted Mansion, we will be looking at the views from outside, in the cemetery.
This piece was done with ink and markers and colored in Photoshop.
“Madame Leota, the medium who was chanting the plaintive incantations, was quite unique. She was truly a disembodied spirit; a mere talking head inside a misty crystal ball. As she invoked the spirits, objects floated about the room in response to her supplications.”
Madame Leota is our second piece of art for this week and she too is a resident of Disney’s Haunted Mansion. This drawing was originally done in ink and markers and colored in Photoshop. It was created for the video of a Haunted Mansion collectable unboxing video series:
Serpents, and spiders; tail of a rat; call in the spirits, wherever they’re at! Rap on a table, it’s time to respond; send us a message, from somewhere beyond! Goblins and ghoulies, from last Halloween, awaken the spirits with your tambourines! Creepies, and crawlies; toads in a pond; let there be music from regions beyond! Wizards and witches, wherever you dwell, give us a hint, by ringing a bell!
Even though I started working on paintings ahead of time for this challenge, these last 2 day’s posts are of pieces that I finished just in time for the challenge. Today we make a trip back to Disneyland. More specifically the Haunted Mansion.
Horntoads and lizards, fiddle and strum. Please answer the role by beating a drum!
Ghost fiends and furies, old friends and new! Blow in a horn, so we’ll know whether it’s you!

Madame Leota is the dismembered head that speaks to the spirits to have them appear for all to see. One of many classic moments on this ride. This is actually a painting from the old version of the ride. Now the crystal ball containing her head floats around the room as she speaks to you. It’s a great effect but not as exciting for my painting. It would be the ball floating in the darkness. I like the visual of the ball on the table with candles flanking her along with playing cards on the table.
Still not sure what day 7 will bring yet but I think it will involve a Muppet.
