30 Paintings in 30 Paintings day 3
Today’s painting almost did not happen which would be disappointing since it’s only the third day. But as my Bay Area friends know, it’s been stupidly hot these last few days. And being in a house with no air conditioning sitting under lights and painting does not come easy. But, I’m forcing myself to work tonight.
This painting is another Madballs painting. This lovely is named Aargh. It is a 5″x7″ ink, watercolor and oil painting on a gesso board. #madballs #aargh #30paintingsin30days #oil #painting #watercolor #ink #art #artist #painter #illustration #1980s #ilovethe80s #toys #80stoys

30 Paintings in 30 Days- Day 2
What I was worried about happening with day 1 came true. My Moleskin painting project hit a snag when it comes to drying times. So, it looks like I will have to pepper those in throughout the month along with other paintings.
That brings us to today. I love the 1980’s and a lot of the things that I draw and paint have a tie to that time period. Growing up in the 80’s has exposed me to many things that have stuck with me and I still enjoy today. One of those things are toys and this painting is based on one of those toy lines, The Madballs. Screamin’ Meemie is the name of this character. He is the second character from the toy line that I have recently painted.
I have plans to do a series of art and posts detailing the history of several 1980’s toy lines and I will go into the Madballs toys and histories then. This will begin in January and I plan to run this for all of 2018.
This piece started as a ink drawing on a gessoed panel. The under painting was in watercolor paint and then glazed with oil paint.

30 Paintings in 30 Days 2017- Day 1
It’s September again and that means the 30 Paintings in 30 Days challenge is upon us. And, I thought I would give it a go. I believe this is my third time and I did complete 30 paintings on the last two challenges. That did not come easy and this time looks to be even more challenging. Not only will I be away on a trip 3 days next week, I’m also creating work for a one man show in Oakland, CA on October 7th. And to finish off October, I’m tabling at my first convention, Famous Monsters of Filmland-Halloween Bash in San Jose, CA.
So, there will be quite a bit of stress going on this September. But, I will try not to drive myself too crazy with this 30 day challenge. My original idea was to do 30 portraits, in oil paint, in a Moleskin journal. I figured it would be a good size and challenge to try for this. Here is the image of the drawing prepainted.
This is a portrait painting of the actress, Jennifer Connelly. I have always been a fan of her from when I first watched the movie, Labyrinth and The Rocketeer(2 of my favorite movies). She also has a very classic Hollywood, beauty look that is very appealing. Those are some of the reasons why I chose to paint her. And that is a theme I plan to use with these Moleskin journal paintings.
But, I learned something important with this painting. Since I am not really painting ahead, These paintings wont dry in time to be scanned and posted. It looks like I’m going to have to pepper in some other types of paintings to be able to do this. Well, I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

9″X12″ Gouache paint on illustration board
Here is a scene from the great version of the Robin Hood story that Disney created. Robin Hood and Little John, walking through the forest. I feel like this is another one of the great Disney films that does not get the attention it should.

Pigs In Space!
I love the Muppets. And if you are like me, that probably means you love Pigs in Space. I always enjoy drawing Jim Henson related characters and I come back to these characters and subjects often. Kind of like I feel about doing Star Wars related art.
It is an ink and watercolor painting on watercolor paper. This is one that I forgot to post the finished image of.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
It’s the start of a new year and I realize that the past 2 months have not been very productive for me. I’m in the middle of a lack of inspiration funk. This is one the few things that I have finished in a while. The painting is of some of the attractions and scenery from Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. For Christmas I was given the book Secret Stories of Walt Disney World by Jim Korkis, and after finishing it, I was inspired to do some Disney themed art. This is a fun book that is filled with 2 page stories all about different subjects that deal with Walt Disney World’s theme parks, resorts, employees and anything remotely Disney related in the Florida area. I first heard about Jim Korkis from podcasts that he has been on and his knowledge of Disney is second to none. In fact, he has several books out about Disney, two more that I have are, The Vault of Walt, which has 4 volumes (of which I have the first 2). They are also fun and quick reads. Lots of fun and interesting stories are in these that any Disney theme park fan will enjoy reading about.
As I was reading the book I decided that I wanted to do something that was related to the stories I had read in the book and I decided that would be from the Animal Kingdom section. So, this painting has the Yeti and the Everest mountain from the Expedition Everest ride, a piece of the dinosaur that stands above the sign for Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures store and at the bottom is the Tree of Life with an elephant sculpture.
I have another drawing to post later this week that I forgot to post a few months ago. Hopefully I can jump start some more artwork soon.

Andy- Parks and Recreation
I know I’m behind the times when it comes to most tv shows, and Parks and Recreation is one of those shows I missed. I just recently started to watch it on Netflix and I’m really enjoying it. I had some extra time between the ink drawings that I’m doing this month and decided to do a little painting. This is Andy, who is played by Chris Pratt.
