30 Paintings in 30 Days- Day 7

5″x7″ oil paints and ink on an artist panel

30 Paintings in 30 Days- Day 7.
It’s a late night with the paints and turpentine tonight. Worked on three different pieces tonight but it started a little shakey. I had no idea what I wanted to do for the 7th painting of the month. But, I’m ok with this one. It’s another 5″x7″ oil painting but this time on a smooth panel. It felt good working on a smooth surface and this is the first painting this month using traditional oils and not water soluble oils.
This is a portrait of actress, Rachel Nichols.

30 Paintings in 30 Days- Day 6

5″x7″ oil paint and ink on a linen panel

30 Paintings in 30 Days – Day 6
Ink and oil paint on a linen panel. Today’s painting is a quick little 5″x7″ Marilyn Monroe portrait. I also thought I would bust out some of the linen panels I had. And I have been wanting to try these out for a while. And on first try I was not pleased with it. There is way too much texture for my taste. I figured they would be smooth panels but you live you learn.

30 Paintings in 30 Days -Day 5

Ink and oil painting on illustration board

30 Paintings in 30 Days- Day 5
Today I have an ink and oil painting of Charlize Theron. The oil paints that I have been using are water soluble so I can get thin layers of paint and still keep the ink drawing visible. I do like to paint with thicker paint but with the quick turnaround of painting daily I chose to use this technique. But, I think another reason I use it is because I like to use watercolors and this has a similar look to that.
And why did I chose to do a portrait of Charlize Theron? I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan of her. She is certainly a great actress and I’ve enjoyed some of her films. I would say I went with her because she has a timeless beauty and style to her. I also liked the high contrast in the lighting of the reference I used.

30 Paintings in 30 Days- Day 4

Ink, watercolor and oil painting on illustration board

Decided to go back to doing a portrait today. This one fought me quite bit and probably took longer than I would like. I started the drawing last night and hoped to get some of the underpainting done but that did not happen. But it’s finally finished. Time to plan the next one.
